Field Experience -- Week 1

On Monday, we were just able to work on our digital stories. My partner and I made great progress and we are to the stage where we are adding final touches. I have to admit I really like how it is turning out. We were even able to show a rough copy to our cooperating teacher and she really liked what we had so far. So I'm hoping when we use it as part of our Social Studies lesson this upcoming week that all will go well.

It was pretty exciting to start field this past week. I was a bit nervous going in there, but lucky for Morgan and I there were a few kids who really warmed up to us quickly. Shortly after being in the classroom I looked to see what kind of technology they were using. They had at least 4 desktop computers many more labtops for the children to use. It was impressed that they basically had enought computers for each child. They also had a Smart Board in the classroom. I have used those before and they are really nice. The teacher used it for several of her lessons and made it interactive and the children were able too complete anything for themselves. Then the last technology piece that the class had was a microphone that hung around the teachers neck. I had seen this before, but they were all getting used to it. It was fun to watch the children's expression when they could borrow the microphone to speak.

The teacher seems to be knowledable about technology and the kids are able to use the computers quite a bit to type up some writing assignments as final drafts. I am sure in the next 2 1/2 weeks that I will see it more and get to try out some of them myself. It is a great teaching tool and keeps teaching fun and interesting.
